    1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4
    0.5 tsp Dried thyme
  • 5
    0.5 tsp Salt
  • 6
    0.25 tsp Black pepper

Optional Toppings

  • 1
0 to taste Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2
0 to taste Green onions, sliced

Directions

1

Prepare Ingredients

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. This helps to get a good sear. Season generously with salt and pepper. Mince the garlic. Slice the onions and mushrooms.

2

Sear the Steak

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, carefully place the steak in the hot pan. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your preference. Use tongs to flip the steak. Be careful with hot oil, it can splatter. A good sear will create a brown crust on the steak, enhancing flavor.

3

Cook Onions

Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside to rest on a cutting board. Resting allows the juices to redistribute, keeping the steak moist. Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Add the sliced onions and cook until they start to soften, about 3 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

Cook Mushrooms and Garlic

Add the sliced mushrooms and minced garlic to the skillet with the onions. Cook until the mushrooms are tender and browned, about 5-7 minutes. Stir occasionally. The mushrooms will release their moisture, so cook until that has evaporated.

5

Add Flavorings

Stir in the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and dried thyme. Cook for 1 minute, allowing the flavors to meld. This creates the base of the sauce. The sauce will thicken slightly as it cooks.

6

Combine Steak and Vegetables

Slice the rested steak against the grain into thin strips. This makes it more tender to eat. Add the steak to the skillet with the mushrooms and onions. Toss to combine and coat the steak with the sauce.

7

Assemble and Serve

Divide the cooked quinoa or rice into bowls. Top with the steak and mushroom mixture. Garnish with fresh parsley and green onions, if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Recipe Tips

  • For best flavor, use a good quality steak. Let it come to room temperature before searing for even cooking.
  • If you don't have fresh thyme, you can substitute with 1/4 teaspoon of dried rosemary or 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning.
  • Adjust the amount of salt and pepper to your preference.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Make sure the internal temperature of the steak reaches 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, and 160°F for well done.
  • Use a meat thermometer for accurate temperature readings. Always handle hot pans and utensils with care.
