Ingredients

Chicken

  • 1
    2.5 pounds chicken wings

Seasoning

  • 1
    0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2
    0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3
    1 teaspoon garlic powder

Sauce

  • 1
    0.25 cup lemon juice
  • 2
    4 cloves garlic cloves
  • 3
    0.25 cup olive oil
  • 4
    1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 5
    0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 6
    2 tablespoons butter

Directions

1

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Adjust your oven rack to the middle position. If you don't have an oven, you can use an air fryer at the same temperature. Be sure to use an oven-safe dish.

2

Season Chicken Wings

In a large bowl, pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. This step is important to ensure crispy skin. Drying removes excess moisture that would steam the wings, not crisp them. Add salt, pepper, and garlic powder to the wings. Toss to coat them evenly.

3

Prepare the Lemon Garlic Sauce

Mince the garlic cloves. Mincing means cutting them into very small pieces. Measure the lemon juice, olive oil, dried oregano, and red pepper flakes. Combine all the sauce ingredients, including the minced garlic, in a small bowl.

Arrange Wings and Apply Sauce

Place the seasoned wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Make sure the wings are in a single layer and not overlapping. You can use an air fryer basket if using an air fryer. Pour half of the prepared lemon-garlic sauce evenly over the wings.

5

First Bake

Bake the wings in the preheated oven for 20 minutes. A baking sheet may become hot, so use oven mitts or pot holders when handling it.

6

Flip and Add Remaining Sauce

Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Flip the wings over and pour the remaining lemon garlic sauce on top.

7

Second Bake

Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for another 20-25 minutes, or until the wings are cooked through and have a beautiful golden-brown color. The internal temperature of the chicken should reach 165°F (74°C).

8

Rest and Serve

Remove the baking sheet from the oven. Let the wings rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or a lemon wedge for extra presentation.

Recipe Tips

  • For extra crispy skin, you can broil the wings for the last 2-3 minutes, but watch closely to avoid burning.
  • Use fresh lemon juice for the best flavor. Bottled lemon juice can be used but the taste will be slightly different.
  • Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for the best results.
  • Always ensure chicken is cooked to a safe internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) to prevent foodborne illness.
  • Ensure all surfaces that come in contact with raw chicken are thoroughly cleaned to avoid cross-contamination.
